Report your Disease Activity and communicate with your IBD Specialist wherever you are with the IBDsmart App

What is IBDsmart?

IBDsmart is a mobile app that allows Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s Disease patients to communicate with their IBD healthcare team. It can be used to monitor the disease and also to report symptoms during a flare-up, so appropriate and swift care can be provided. This easy to use app makes it possible for patients and the IBD healthcare team to keep track of symptoms securely, without the need for face to face consultations. IBDsmart can also be installed on tablets, iPads and desktop computers.

About IBDsmart

IBDsmart uses the Harvey Bradshaw Index (HBI) as well as the Crohn’s Disease Activity Index (CDAI) for Crohn’s Disease patients and the Simple Clinical Colitis Activity Index (SCCAI) for Ulcerative Colitis patients. A profile is set up for each patient including a questionnaire schedule that enables notifications and/or emails to be sent, prompting patients to complete either of the above questionnaires (HBI, SCCAI or CDAI). The CDAI is completed over seven days and patients receive a reminder each day.

IBDsmart has been piloted before being tested in a Randomized Controlled Trial in Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland. To read more about the Clinical Trial Study undertaken by the University of Otago click the link below.

How do I get IBDsmart?

With the global outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, IBDsmart was made available publically to enable IBD patients to keep in contact with their Specialist without having to come to clinic.

If you are a patient interested in using IBDsmart, have a chat with your IBD Nurse or Gastroenterologist. If your IBD healthcare team is using IBDsmart as part of their service, they will be able to set you up with IBDsmart. Notably, you must be a registered patient with a Gastroenterologist to be eligible.
